Right then, it took me ages to unearth this post for an update. But finally it looks like things are moving. Buying real estate addictive Jessiebean, nope not in the UK! It doesn't look like we will be in until the first week of October so much for my 8 weeks idea. I now have the utmost respect for anyone who has ever bought a house, its very stressful eh?

Every step of the way you have deal with bare faced liars, idiots and people who just can't do their job properally. I hope never, ever to have to go through an estate agent again. - Scotland has to be the next move! I had to be seriously rude myself in the end and it wasnt' the most comfortable way to act I threaten to pull out as they were all stalling, bah! Is buying houses always this hard?

Yup! Well have only bought twice in France and if you don't keep phoning the notaire and pushing them to get their A into G they don't do a darned thing until the last week and will drag it all out for 3 months.

That's great news and, of course, now is a good time to buy if you have nothing to sell as there are some fantastic bargains out there.

I'm in a similar situation...I can't imagine ever being able to buy a house and am a little bit jealous of anyone who can!

There would have been no way I would have been able to afford it had it not been from Emma earning and an inheritance. Even then we are the cheap end of the housing market. But, if some forecasts are correct my house will be worth half as much in 5 years time anyway!

Trouble is - it means growing up, staying put, settling down, being responsible for your own repairs and the mould on the walls is always your fault because you can't pass the problem on to anywhere else. If you don't like the neighbours you can't move and if the work moves elsewhere then you have to sell up and go through it all again.

But well done that man. Now all you have to do is to earn enough money to keep the place together.

Well done Andy, good luck with it all. Having owned and rented in my time, I do prefer the security you have from owning - at least you know that nobody (well, apart from the mortgage company) can pull the rug out from under you once you settle.

That said, I have never felt as settled in a house as I do in our current rented one - though I suspect this is more to do with the man than the tenancy agreement though.

Hope the rennovations go well.

Congrats, not a homeowner but me & the OH have strted looking into moving house & so far what we would be able to afford on our budget is not great, do need to get myself a new job though

UPDATE:

We are in, be in for a week.Yep folks it took that long. Starting to realise just how expensive it can be to own a house. The plumbing breaks, you fix it! Anyway, that aside ....compared to the last rented place this is 100 times better so we are (at last) very happy here.

Oh, I've so been there ;-). (Although, also, it breaks, you codge it up in a crap but liveable way, you fix it 5 years later ;-) ).

Congratulations!!! . Also, I volunteer at a place which has decorated one of its walls with the most fabulous giraffe mural which was apparently £20 on the internet. I can't have one because we have no big walls ++ woodchip, but, if you have a big ugly smoothish wall you want to cover up, could I recommend the giraffe mural to you and I can do it vicariously.
