Ploughing with horses
Bottling, Pickling
Some experience of butchering a pig and making rillettes, pate, etc
simple pottery and basket making
metal work Inc. Lathework, simple blacksmithing

Pretty efficient with computers, especially spreadsheets but rusty with CAD
Restoring old British motorbikes

Things I'd like to do better
learn not to hate using a phone
learn to make cheese
gain practical experience of using alternative energy and constructing natural pools and water treatment
Go on keeping me and my missus happy

We ought to be trading some of these skills, it would be very "ish" to do so. Now who was it who said they were good with spreadsheets...

I can find things my husband swears are lost (although his "skill" is to not see things in plain sight so it's not THAT clever).
I'm pretty good at knocking up sets of accounts and analysing numbers. Not bad for someone who once almost failed GCE Maths.
I can speak French, Spanish and Swedish and make a fair stab at Yiddish too (not much call for that in North Yorkshire right now)
I can sit on the floor and touch my chin to the ground (I used to be able to do it with my forehead but don't seem to be able to do that these days)
I can knit fair isle jumpers on a circular needle
I can play a guitar and read music. I'm totally unmusical and it took me until I was in my forties but I cracked it eventually.
I am also good at letting my grand daughters think I know absolutely everything about everything. It's getting harder now the eldest is eight and apparently a gifted child. I have to keep saying I'll get back to her and go off and look things up. We are currently exploring what made Anna Anderson pretend to be Anastasia Romanova. Thank heavens for Google...

I love everybody's skills! Aren't we a talented bunch? If only there was a way of sharing them via osmosis through the internet!

I've got one to add after today. I'm good at resealing baths and not poking certain people in sensitive places with the sealant-smoother tool when they have baths while it's still wet and unseal it again.

Graye, I'm very encouraged you learnt guitar in your forties. I might pick up mine again with more enthusiasm. Can you do the F chord? (Says she, thoughtfully).

Keaniebean, I'd like to learn to meditate too. (I'm jealous of your gardening skills, although in a supportive way ;-) ).

Grahamhobbs, wow, that's all seriously impressive, I wish I could do half of that. That's expanded my list of things to learn!

(Also, all you people who are good at cuddling are just better and nicer people than me. I'm famously un-tactile. Although in a perverse way this seems to make other people more affectionate with me, I think they have a secret scorecard on which I'm some kind of trophy. Paranoid, moi, surely not).

I can do most DIY stuff
I am good at understanding how things work.
When I put stuff back together, I seldom have parts left over.
I have a good eye for engineering, so things I build don't usually fall down.
Though I can't watch gory movies, I am good in a crisis, and the real stuff doesn't bother me.
I am a trained mediator and can help other people solve their problems. (My own, well, that's another story!)
I am a good instructor.
I can knit and sew.

your not the only one! i never have been overly touchy-feely . theres a time and a place for it.

Perhaps people sense this in the same way that cats immediately know who is allergic to them and make a beeline for them.
