Fabric for baby sling

I'd like a moby sling but they're quite expensive and the fabric in my local shop to make it is almost as expensive.

Looking online I can gather they're made from stretch cotton or cotton jersey (possibly the same thing?).

Can anyone shed some light on exactly what I'm looking for and a cheap place to find it. I'm worried if I get the wrong stuff it might not be strong enough and could be unsafe for my baby.

remember if you buy 5m length of fabric you cut it length ways into 2-3 strips, depending on how wide it is, which makes you 2 or 3 wraps instead of just 1 if you were to buy a moby wrap.

I have made a moby from stretch jersey. I paid 2.49 per meter from the range. The only drawback was the only pattern they had was leopard print... I have finally had to stop using and swap for a mei tei.

There was a moby sling on ebay so I bought it. Ended up paying £30 incl. p+p - I just didn't know enough about the material to guarantee it was safe to put my baby in.

This sounds a bit silly - even to me - but if I'm going to worry about it all the time, it was worth spending that little bit extra.

you can also look on natural mamas fsot or there's a fb group - slings and things fseot and advice. I've bought both a woven wrap and a carrier from NMs.
