Hi, the red coating on some seeds, fungicide apparently; is it said to have an impact on fauna?
Just getting my toms going and the seeds are all pink. Do organic tom seeds also have this treatment?

I've never heard of it, especially organically grown, but I suppose it can't be ruled out. Ask the manufacturer, they might be able to help.

I remember that some seed companies used to supply pelleted small seeds to make them easier to sow singly. I believe they were coated in clay, which of course dispersed in the damp soil.
I'd forgotten about that.

I have seen the red coating of fungicide on seeds given to me before. If they were organic, they would not have been treated with anything at all

It seems fairly common here, I believe it is a fungicide and pest repellent but not positive. Unfortunately local seed packets are all in Bulgarian so there is no way of knowing till you open the packet. I get a lot of my seed from the UK, (but try to get them in the sales) but some varieties just don't cope with the conditions here, as the OP has probably found in Greece. Also, being on a low budget, you can get 8 packs of seed with many more seeds for the price of one 2.99 pack in the UK. Not ideal but compromises sometimes need to be made.
