The Great Garden Birdwatch takes place on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th January. All you need is an hour to sit in your garden or window, or take off to your local park or other green space and see what birds you can see within the hour, then log on to the RSPB's website with your results. It's something really worthwhile to do with small children particularly if the weather is unkind but you have a good view from the warmth of your kitchen - mine are 4 and 2 and my eldest can already name most of the common species around here (the youngest just flaps his arms around shouting 'birdie'...).
