We use it to get sticker residue off school clothing, and then drink some to numb the pain of being annoyed at the school for continually handing out stickers!

Vodka is good for colds - mixed with some warm blackcurrent!! (well in my house anyway)

There is also the Vodka Melon...
1. Take a water melon and cut a small (shot glass sized) hole in the skin and put to one side
2. pour as much vodka into the melon as will soak in
3. replace the cut skin in the whole, leave for 24 hours
*Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have poured the whole bottle in
leave again for a couple of days and then cut the melon open and either eat as it is, or blitz it with ice to make a georgeous summer cocktail

My Granny told me that if my babies were restless to swish some vodka around the inside of their milk bottles, tip it out and then fill with warm milk for a good nights sleep - I never tried this as all 3 of mine were breatfeed and whilst I could get the vodka in I struggled to tip it out again  so I can't confirm if it works but my Dad's ok so I'm guessing it didn't do any harm???

I haven't seen anyone mention Vodka Jelly?

I also made a tincture with chestnuts and vodka which is an astrigent but supposed to be especially good for varicose veins :drunken:

I'd forgotten about this,it's a tried and tested way aussies smuggle alcohol into cricket matches, except instead of a shot sized hole they inject it in with a syringe! Then they cut a small hole and drink straight from the fruit.

i think this may be somewhere else on this site but using vodka as a carrier (?) for essential oils in an atomiser means you can mix your own blended scents. ive got lemon oil on the go now, mmmmm zesty!

Oooh you can.

I used to make room atomisers:

1/4 bottle vodka (bottle = size of spray bottle!!)
3/4 bottle distilled or purified water
50 drops of essential oil mix, or fragrance oil mix.

Shake well and spray into the air to freshen it. You can use different essential oils to combat different things:

Relaxing:

Lavender, Geranium, Rose, Chamomile

Disinfecting:

Tea Tree, Pine Balsam, Thyme

Deodourising:

Thyme, Rosemary, Lime

Wakey Wakey:

Citruses, peppermint.

Cold (sick) room:

Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Peppermint and Lavender (for rest) or citrus (for waking up).

Insect repellant:

Tea Tree, Citronella, Lemon

The vodka is a solvent, most essential oils do not disperse in water and need a solvent to dissolve them. By putting the vodka in the bottle, then the oild, you disperse them into the alcohol, and then dilute that mixture with water!

Not sure i'd want to try the glasses cleaner on on coated lenses - the aforementioned solvent effect might break down the coating.

I've seen this twice on her whilst looking. My 11 year old has the dreaded nits and as her hair is so long and thick we have had a real fight on our hands and we always seems to miss one or two. But I think (fingers crossed ) I'm finally getting there.
Would you recommend a Vodka rinse?

I'll certainly be buying pure tea tree oil to mix in her shampoo......
