Digestive biscuit recipe?
For reasons which will soon become clear I find myself needing a cheap wholesome actually tasty biscuit and I know I am terribly fond of mcvities (no not with the chocolate) digestives (but not hobnobs) but they are $4 a packet here in Australia (nearly 2 Pound Sterling). Does anyone have a tried and true recipe that resembles these or do I have to throw my self on the mercy of untried internet recipes?

I have just made River Cottage's recipe and it is quite good, I didn't have spelt flour so I ground my own wholewheat using Thermomix..

Re: Digestive biscuit recipe?
I tried to find a digestive biscuit recipe, and all the ones I found online included oatmeal, so I bought some and tried a batch. Two conclusions: The recipe worked out more expensive than McVities (though possibly not at Australian prices) and the result was more like hobnobs than McVities digestives.
Looking at the ingredients list on the packet, I see no mention of oatmeal, but wheatmeal instead. I'm a little hazy on the definition of 'meal' and how it relates to flour, but given that the desired texture is quite fine (definitely finer than the medium oatmeal I bought) I wonder how they'd turn out if you just used wholemeal flour.
Also the recipes online used a lot of butter which, while tasty, wasn't quite the right taste. McVities use oil, which I guess would be cheaper.
I haven't actually tried a recipe that works yet (that's haven't tried, not that many recipes haven't worked), but I hope that what I've learned so far is useful.

The river cottage ones are reasonable, I ground my own wheat for them and oatmeal too but I will continue my search...!
