What can I do with broad beans?

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

What can I do with broad beans?

Post: # 161656Post Uller »

I have a confession to make - I don't really like broad beans very much. I especially don't like them if they haven't been shelled (and shelling them is a very boring process). However, I have had loads in my veg box and am loathe to waste them so have spent ages podding & shelling.

Now what do I do with them? Has anyone tried making felafel with fresh beans? Does anyone have a recipe for something I can make which doesn't taste too much of broad bean?

I first started to like broad beans when I read about cooking them in olive oil and garlic. Now I love them...

Eat them with new potatoes and parsley - I'm sure they don't taste too broad beany like that!

Genius - thanks to both of you. I have just put shelled broad beans, garlic, olive oil, parsley, mint, lemon juice and a little bit too much salt in the food processor. Blitzed and now have a tub of delicious, beautiful summery green houmus in the fridge!

I love broad beans, sometimes i pour a cheese sauce over the top of my steamed beans and add a few little jalepenos in the sauce and bobs your uncle, something different.

Uller I was the same as you too but grew some this year for the first time. As long as I shell them they taste OK! I've put them in a creamy potato salad, served with fresh tagliatelle and a red pesto sauce, and in a salad nicoise. They get a bit lost in with the other flavours that way.

Fife Diet recently posted a recipe for
BROAD BEAN & CARAMELISED ONION PESTO
http://fifediet.co.uk/recipes/

Here's how they suggest serving it:
Serve warm with pasta, potatoes, flat bread or fish. You can also eat cold as a spread for bread, oatcakes sandwich filling.
