What is the best and/or easiest way to remove rust from the painted and unpainted parts of a bike?

The easiest way by far to do the job is to take it to your local vapour blaster or shot blaster which will take off all traces of old paint and rust, failing that, you can take get wire brush to attach to your drill, or use wirewool, a rough grade scotchbrite and sandpaper.

Hurrah! Someone did it for me, interestingly, using aluminium foil scrunched up, just on the unpainted areas. It worked a treat.
