Re: old tyre recycle ideas anyone
We inhetited a lot of old tyres with this place, we have several uses for them:
We put them round small trees/shrubs, this stops the rabbits getting at them (so we a re told, but we don't seem to have rabbits here so maybe uncessry) it marks out where the shrub is so it doesn't accidentally get mowed over, if you put a 2 or three over the young tree it acts as windbreak
Great for putting over the taps that someone decided would be good to locate in the middle of paddocks, either 1 foot above or 3 inches below the level of the soil Stops them getting accidentally mowed as well.

Opinionated but harmless

As my husband used to do motorsport we have a stack of them at the bottom of the garden.
the local tip want to charge £2.50 each to dispose of them, and despite advertising them on our local freecycle several times, we have no takers.
the thought of paying to dispose of them pains me

Hi,
With regards to the ideas for old tyre recycling, we have previously used them for raised beds, growing potatoes and herbs.
We have also doubled up on tractor tyres and used them for a fish pond at our last house - but I did draw the line at my husband walking around with firestone tyres for sandals on his feet! (or as he used to call them "Ho Chi Minh treads")

Personally i wouldn`t risk growing anything edible in a planter that could contain stuff like cadmium, chromium, lead, barium, arsenic and selenium.
Re: old tyre recycle ideas anyone
i have a front garden designed round old tyres,it is a water logged area so we stoned it and used tyres for the herbs, flowers, bulbs.

if you have a local riding school or stables, they are often really greatful of them as they make wings for horse jumps that are safer if you bounce into them .
they are also good for putting feed buckets in so horses cant knock their dinner over.
same for water buckets
The theme here, is that stables are a good place to get rid of tyres..........
. there is a company somewhere that makes things out of tyres , including buckets and trugs. nice to know some of them find a second life.
all the best hope you find a good use for yours

Re: old tyre recycle ideas anyone
Iv seen them used for growing potatoes, just stack them up like you would earth - I think it was Gardeners World or something like it.
One of Ray Mears shows, he cuts strips of inner tyre to make good tinder/starters for the fire kit.
On Grand Designs this guy made a whole house out of tyres, it was well brilliant! However, saying that he couldnt get planning in the UK, he had to go to Europe to do it.
Iv also seen this done in America in the Desert - Stephen Frys Tv Programme - showed houses made of tyres, glass bottles just about everything.
Iv also seen them shredded for mulch/protection in the garden.
Getting my creative mind on:
Turning them sideways and hanging them from walls they could be used as plant baskets.
Rubber soles on shoes, if you know how to convert them.
Cut in half and pinned to the wall were people park to stop them hitting the wall.
Large cable tides if cut and fixed in a strip.
Hose tidys.
Fitness device - the old army exercise of hoping over them.
My cousin (by Marriage) owns Brixham Tyres (they do tyres for the Super Bike races, and cars), I will ask him what he does with them. Im also sure my Brov (a car fanatic) has loads of tyres. I will let you all know.
