App for foraging

Post: # 289113Post johnb1 »

I am not to happy with the apps I have. The main ones I have are for Fungi. Does anyone else use one? and what's your opinion on it?
Next I want one for edible wild plants, again has anyone got one and your opinion on it.
Trees would also be useful.
Now the the main thing I have problems with is recording and saving both location and description of food source.
The latter is my main problem, so strictly speaking it doesn't have to be a foraging one.
Thank you

Some are free but they tend to be inferior to the paid for. The fungi ones tend to be a bit on the "I don't want to be sued so I will play safe and say don't eat it". When in fact it looks vaguely like a poisonous one. Note when I say poisonous I mean similar to a stomach ache. It goes:-
Edible
Inedible
Suspicious
Poisonous
Very poisonous
Welcome to death. Only 3

Here's a few I use regularly. I don't use apps to find edible plants but to indentify them. Then I research them and if they're edible or useful in some other way I put their names in a notebook. Occasionally I'll do more research on them, like recipes or medicinal uses. Slowly I'm building up a nice list of handy plants in my area without having to remember stuff I'll probably never see. They're all free. HerbiGuide has some parts you need to pay for but the most useful part for a forager is free. Some of them are big apps so you'll need space on your device and wifi to download them! If you don't think the areas covered by the apps suit you, you can look at the list of similar apps on their respective pages. If you don't own an Android device, I feel sorry for you. ;-)

Has anybody since found any good apps for the UK?
