I've seen it in books and things to watch out for but never seen it for real, found this yesterday which fits the images I remember, is it hemlock or hemlock water dropwort? It was by a canal but other side of the path from the actual water.

Re: Hemlock?
Looks like it to me too. Doesn't matter as far as toxicity is concerned - both are poisonous.

Re: Hemlock?
It is Hemlock, it's a bienial, the other is a perenial. Similar habitats, but a Dunc says the stem is the give away.
Although it could be Rough Chervil, Hemlock smells bad, and is more common in damp places, and will grow to 2m, Rough Chervil only half that. Hemlock leaves split up to 4 Pinate, Chervil 2 - 3.
Did I mention I have a new book!

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

Oh it's brilliant, its a Collins Complete Guide to British Wild Flowers, it was £3 at the Works, and part of a by 2 get one free offer, so I got Trees and Birds as well!
They are really good for first identifications, then when you have an idea you can do more on line, try googling, green thing, doesn't help much!

Yeah I have various books, food for free and others I use for reference but find photos and videos offer better clarity.
