Grape Vine

Post: # 5590Post Sue »

With global warming I should now (apparently) be able to grow my own grapes
Does anyone have any easy grow varieties - quite hardy for us Northerners, which would be nice to make wine with?
Do I plant in Spring? Would two be better? :dave:

Are you bored with all my questions yet?

No not bored with your questions!

I have a grapevine that I put in 4 years ago. It's grown nicely, even though I have pruned it hard in January as the French do. Last year I had about 15 bunches of little grapes, which we ate, but I am sure they'd make a great brew.

This year I let it do it's own thing and not pruned it, but have had no grapes! It's maybe just a bad year for them.

I can't tell you the variety apart from they are white and the vine started out on the Selborne Estate in Hampshire, where I used to live. You can buy them at garden centres, but I am sure someone else here has better advice for you.

Hey 2steps having the same error code as me coming up? Don't need to re-send the info. Seems to be fine and uploaded after the error code has shown. Pesky technology eh?

I don't have a greenhouse. My vine is on a south facing slope, well sort of. It does ok. I am in the 'tropical' south west tho'! (near Bath) We still get lots of frosts and snow.
