Have I made a cherry big mistake?

When we moved into our house 3 years ago one of the first things I did was to rush out and buy 2 sweet (small root stock but I can't remember which rootstock specifically) cherry trees. I envisaged them growing into a beautiful fence in the garden and fan trained them accordingly. I didn't really do enough research and am worried now that they'll never be very happy, or if they are happy they may be too huge for our modest garden.

Has anyone any experience of fan training cherry trees?
Do the trunks of cherry trees on small rootstocks grow as massive as of wild cherries? Is it just the height that is restricted or do they stay over-all more mini?

I love these trees and they do look pretty but they're only young at the moment and if I have to move them or give them away I understand that it's best to do that before they get very old.

Any help much appreciated.
