Kelly Ketlle
Kelly Ketlle
Any one got one? I know they are pricey but I've got some money from a much loved gran who would approve What can you burn in them if you are at festivals and can't scavenge pine cones! I suppose you take twigs and stuff? I do like the idea of not using camping gas, always seem so wasteful and over-packaged.
Will plan to use mine at the vintage festival- what fun

They're certainly very popular with the less high-tech end of the outdoor set. You'd think they were standard issue with Canadian canoes...
I haven't used gas for years... I either use a meths stove, an open fire, or one of these.

I have one and love it. I've used twigs, paper, dried leaves, dried grass, in fact you can use anything natural. We've even run ours on dried llama droppings - this was a one off experiment but it worked :D

I've got a 1.5 litre Kelly kettle which is great for burning dried garden waste when working outside. I have also got a smaller M Kettle for when I go lightweight camping. Check out www.wildstoves.co.uk for various different types.
My cooker of choice is the meths fueled Trangia which I can also use to heat the M Kettle.

Has anyone seen the plot, I seem to have lost mine?
Re: Kelly Ketlle
Thanks everyone. I like the wildstoves site so I'll take a look, and the little fold down stove on Dunc's link looks very useful. Not sure i could run to llama droppings....I do think my son would like it. Last camping trip he carried around a lump of (unlit) coal as he thought it was 'interesting'. The only time he has ever asked to go to bed was when we were in a tipee! Argh the out door life is what I dream of here in Peckham!

I've got a kelly kettle. They are quite fab and make a cuppa really quickly.
You can burn anything that has a flame really. I've had the best success burning newspaper in it to make a quick cup of tea.

Love them, you can cook on the base unit once the flames have died down from boiling the kettle.
Re: Kelly Ketlle
Right I'm convinced. Will put an order in for one, thanks to all.
Happy camping!
