So, we had an offer accepted yesterday on a house with 2/3 of an acre of agricultural land!

I feel like a complete person again...and this time we are buying not renting, so no danger of building up something only to lose it. And I can browse this wonderful forum again without depressing myself!

Eeek so excited! Now to research polytunnels and chicken coops...hopefully I can still remember how to grow stuff!

Growing your own food...I recon that is the real meaning of life.

Firsttunnels are very reasonable - It is going to be a bit of a financial apocalypse, but as soon as we have recovered from buying the house and paying for the wedding, provided I avoid bankruptcy (again) I shall have a nice 12ft one in time for winter. Eeeeeeee!

The new man is not so inclined to selfsufficiency, but I am working on him...

12 foot is not big enough, 12 foot long??? nah, think bigger, I have one that is 10ft by 35ft that I had in Berkshire, it cost me 550 quid from Ferryman, my 16 x 72 foot is from First Tunnels, wow, in a funny way I wish I had 2/3 acre it would be lovely to plan that out, congratulations to you all xxx

I totally agree with previous comments that 12' is nowhere near big enough, I guarantee you'll regret it if that's what you get.
I initially got a 12' x 33' tunnel and soon discovered that once you start tunnel gardening, 400 square feet is just frustrating, so I bit the bullet and got another 14' 6" x 35' tunnel to put along side of the first one. That is just about enough for the 2 of us most of the time, but only just. That's not counting my large greenhouse either.

I would suggest that you get the biggest one that you can fit in, or if money is tight, get a smaller one but site it so that you can get more hoops later and extend it.

Well done by the way, exciting times ahead and getting self sufficient(ish) as well.

very glad you have come round, I was given a pollytunnel early last year (well, by given I mean given the rights to dig it out of a wet field)

it was 10x25 foot long but I only had space for 15 foot at the time, I have now re-engineered the gardens steps and put up the hoops for it to be the full 25 foot again. Which has been a huge amount of work, slow going over the winter but speeding up now (then stopping again due to snow! )

Congratulations, how fabulous. I do hope everything goes smoothly and you can get in quickly. Is the land all nice and neatly ploughed and ready just to be planted?

Thanks Zoe - it is just meadow grass at the moment, so will need a good strim and a tidy up.

The solicitors are taking AGES - I doubt we will be in before the end of June, so I think I will give this year a miss in terms of growing veg and focus on getting bare root soft fruit in for the autumn, beds and compost bins prepared and the polytunnel up, so that come next spring I am all set and ready to go.
