Hello everyone!

Post: # 241037Post Lentil »

Hello everyone!
So pleased to have found you all.
All my life I have cared about the environment & tried to be as self sufficient as possible.
I have been vegetarian for almost thirty years but recently eaten a little fish on rare occasions
At the moment, I have a little plum tree loaded with large fruit, a sort of cordon style pear tree that has drooped all its fruit (disappointing), raspberries canes, small currant bushes, herbs & the usual flowers etc. (cuttings are taking nicely).

I also have compost heaps & two wormeries (one indoors & one outside): Small solar panels (12volt battery nearly worn out & expensive to replace). I did have a homemade windmill, it was only 2metres up but grumpy neighbour moaned about it. I also had a solar water panel, it was made by a friend, out of copper pipes: Unfortunately it burst during the freezing winter: I still have a tiny water heater that only holds half a litre.

*As I am a’Freegan’ I acquire lots of stuff to feed the worms & freebies to share with friends & to take into Oxfam.

I love crafts & make some of my own cards & also jewellery. I did take up spinning but was just too tense to be of much use at it.
I hope to do a bit of felting & knitting this winter & use up some of my wool stash.

I am desperately saving to move house & make, re-use, re-cycle (collecting cans again now & this also tidies up my less than perfect environment). I live alone & as I am getting a bit long in the tooth, everything takes me an age to accomplish now.

Welcome Lentil, sounds as though you`re already very 'ish'. I`ve always fancied spinning myself. Have you got a wheel or do you use a drop spindle or something? I love felting too! There`s something so basic about it.

Thank you all for your nice welcomings!
When I was at Walsall Hand Spinners, I borrowed a wheel; I returned it on leaving. I have two drop spindles & on being prompted by your interest I will go back to mastering that.
I have some nicely carded wool (I love hand carding & combing too,) that I plan to hand dye with plant dyes & wet felt some of it & needle felt less of it: The yarn I spun looks very rustic LOL.

Hi Lentil! Sounds like you'll be able to give lots of advice on a thing or two. I have 2 compost bins and am planning to get myself a wormery soon. Maybe you could give me some advice on one soon.
Welcome to the forum anyway. It's a brilliant place!

Hello all you lovely people,
I will put in my location when I find out out how & also a signature perhaps. I can't even seem to be able to use the smilies!
Of course I will give any help I can with setting up a wormery etc but there is a lot of info if Googled: Unfortunately some of it is a bit conflicting. I have a small wormery (made by me) in the house & there is no smell at all from it.
Compost toilets, using worms, are my study area at the moment.

My location: Walsall, West Mids. UK
