Hello from New Zealand

Post: # 170908Post homegrown »

Greetings from the deep south, my wife, three boys, my self and anever growing population of poultry and animals live on 8 acres in rural canterbury NZ, we grow our own veg, eat and sell free range eggs, will slaughter our first pig this year and have two future lambe dinners arriving shortly. my business is teaching others how to grow their own veg even on tiny city plots, I also make planters out of recycled pallets and cable drums and built both my greenhouses out of pallets and recycled plumbing pipe. One day we hope to find suitable land to build a combination tyre, rammed earth and strawbale home that is off the grid, but NZ legislation is a mite tricky to navigate.

Modern humanity has said to Nature, "You are mine."

Hi there and welcome
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Thanks for the welcome, its nice to know there are like minds out their, most of my friends think self-suffiency is a dirty word and bow to the great god of debt and fashion

Fashion, as in they have to have the things the media says, big screen TV's fancy cars, the right clothes, all the gadgets.

Modern humanity has said to Nature, "You are mine."

Thanks for the welcome everyone and by the way gumboots are a national costume here, we even have a song about them listen here

But apparently the UK has something similar

Well at least you Kiwis don't wear those daft hats with corks hanging off them like the Aussies!

(don't worry you'll get used to my sense of humour eventually, I hope!)
