I'm so jealous...
....and so frustrated.....
....and so impatient....
....and...

 I'm still waiting, as you probably guessed, but mine are still a bit young - about 17 weeks old I think.
How old is yours gunners?
What did the egg look like? I've heard the first ones can be mis-shapen.
Was it tiny?
Have you eaten it?
What was it like?
Was your hen really proud of herself?
Did she make a lot of noise about it?

TELL ME MORE!!!! (please)
Rosey xx

I'm laughing at Rosie here - I know she can't wait to find her first egg!!

Our blackrocks are still a tad too young - as are the sussex girls, I'd say they were about 17 weeks-ish as well.

However.... we hatched a little clutch in September - 10 in total - 5 with the broody hen & 5 in the incubator... we lost one to a fox, only one is a rooster & there are 3 hens from our RIR rooster & one of the green legged partridge hens. These GLP hens lay a smaller egg, almost almond in colour - nice looking eggs & tasty too... so we now have 3 mini-chick hens just started to lay a light buff brown smaller sized egg!

Happy Days

Oh, & I just candled the 40 eggs in our new incubator & only 2 weren't viable.... I think!
The more people I meet, the more I like my garden

Rosey, For a bit of fun, can you take guesses on the date of the first egg.

I'm going for April 11th
