Rhubarb, requires a lot of organic matter and moist soil whereas lavender does not

You could grow one or both of them in pots. That way you could give them both the growing conditions they like.

Rhubarb is a monster when it gets going so best in the ground with lots of manure or compost. Lavender is more a case of a decent soil but not too much. Can grow into a huge bush if happy so like rhubarb needs plenty of space.

You need to plant anything well away from rhubarb as when it gets going in the spring the stems and leaves spread out greatly. In other words, it depends on what you mean by near! I know how far mine spreads and nothing is near as in close by.

I agree with Flo, rhubarb is a thug, it will out complete anything else that grows near it

I was wondering more along the lines of, would a chemical from one cause a problem with the growth of the other, as seems to happen with some plants.
