Any ideas what these are?
I seem to have managed to lose the label on this tray. I initially thought they were tomatoes but they don't look like any of the others I have. They don't have that smell either, although they don't smell of anything much. They are vigourous and about 4 inches tall. Any ideas anyone?

They look like Huckleberries or Wonderberries as they are marketed this side of the pond.
If I'm right, beware as I grew some 4 years ago and I'm still weeding the seedlings to this day.

Sorry I don't recognise them, but they are not tomatoes.

Re: Any ideas what these are?
They all sprang up together in one little pot in a tray of what was otherwise French beans. I transplanted them into this tray when they just had the first two leaves on and they definitely looked like vigorous tomatoes at that point, they have the same hairy stems. I've been through all the seeds I have and the only possibility seems to be some datura seeds a friend in Spain gave me but I can't imagine even I would be daft enough to plant them in with veggies. I think they must have tipped in there by mistake. Anyone any ideas what datura seedlings look like?

Still not sure about daturas, the leaves and stems on these are hairy, like tomatoes, and quite soft. The daturas seem shinier and stiffer somehow. I can't think I had any huckleberry seeds either. Perhaps I'll have to wait until they develop a bit more. And I'll go through my seed box again. I don't think I'll be planting them out with the salad veggies just yet though...

I think I'd go datura too. We have several in the greenhouse at the moment - and at this stage (about that of those in the photo), they're hairy and soft.

Just went and found some of mine for you.
The first is a seedling that's will be an ex-huckleberry by the time you read this, and the second is a more mature one I found in the pea row.
That one is just about to flower.

Re: Any ideas what these are?
Are you growing any potato leaf variety tomatoes? They look a bit similar to those. But only a bit

No, just basic moneymaker & tom thumb. It's that first pair of leaves that are so distinctive (and tomato like). They don't look like those on the huckleberry and there aren't any on that photo Davie Crockett posted so I can't compare. Are they similar on your daturas, MKG? I remember looking for some purple upright datura seeds I had but couldn't find them - otherwise I'm positive I've only planted veggies or salad stuff this year. I bought geraniums and begonias as plugs as an experiment (great value too...) so didn't actually open up any seed packs.

Well it'll be a nice surprise when you eventually find out.
Incidentally we planted a tray of Tagetes and when they sprouted we got one healthy calendula amongst them all - definitely out of the same seed packet. So you could still be in for some surprise tomatoes
