Sprouting seeds and pulses

Post: # 252158Post Henwoman »

I have never sprouted anything so far, but would like to start doing this. Has anyone any advice on this topic please? I have bought some dried lentils and chickpeas at the local supermarket and was going to try with these and a mayo jar with a mesh material and rubber band.

Just google "sprouting pulses" or similar and you'll find tons of info. It's not difficult but each variety takes a different amount of time to germinate so I wouldn't recommend mixing them until you know how long each is expected to take.

After that it's pretty straight forward, bung them in the jar, put your mesh over the top and fix, give them a really good rinse then drain thoroughly and do that every day until you get sprouts - chickpeas are about 4-5 days if memory serves, although temperature and daylight might affect it.

Quick tip - don't put more than a thin layer of seeds at the bottom of the jar as they can increase in volume alarmingly as they sprout, and may well take over your kitchen if you put too many in! I speak from experience here!

We do a lot of sprouting, must say that green lentils are my favorite, they taste a bit like like raw peas, good luck with the sprouting

I love sprouted seeds, you can feel they're doing you good as you eat them

I second the putting less in than you think comment, it's amazing how they grow
