Post: # 226439Post chilitony »

I have heard that because of the weather that there is a shortage of purple sprouting this year, so i was well pleased when i went to the allotment today and picked the first this year. Its in the steamer now, to have with my dinner :flower:
captus nidore culinae (caught by the odor of the kitchen)

Lucky you - the cabbage whites stripped mine down to the ribs, but they survived and looked as though they might do somethingm, but -15 C temps finished them off, along with all my other winter greens bar the leeks.

Nevermind - I looked under the Seakale pots, and before long.......

All the best
Sue

Ours suffered as well. Only 3 plants survived. Our petite posies on the otherhand survived all the coldness. So well worth trying again

5 of my 12 survived, 4 have buds, 1 is looking decidedly unhappy... but from the way the 4 are sprouting, we'll be eating it til it comes out of our ears anyway!!

We'll be eating our PSB pretty soon as long as the pigeons don't get to it first.

still waiting for mine. Do the "sprouts" come from a 45 deg angle between a leaf and the stem (like the bits you pinch off a tomato plant) because if they do it wont be long!!

Yes and they should resemble a little brocolli head forming.

Can be a good metre in all directions but it depends - this year mine are more compact (about 2 foot in all directions) and one is even smaller. As long as they have sprouts that's all that matters. Had my first feast last night. Sorry I didn't take a photo of them on the plant!!
