what are you sowing?

I sowed my parsnips about 2 weeks ago.
Broad beans and spinach beet about a week ago.
Spuds and red onions the other day and also leek seeds. All outside direct in the soil.

And I'm eating mustard and cress sown on the windowsill.

My windowsills are full. It has been nice to be able to plant stuff whilst I have been off work and I am now beginning to see results.
Some are going in the mini greenhouse this weekend as I have run out of space inside.

So far I have;

Peas
Runner Beans
Red Peppers
Yellow Peppers
Chillies
Squash
Cucumbers
Crystal Lemon cucumbers (round and yellow)
Courgettes (2 types)


and 7 diff varieties of sunflower, including:

Giant
Kong
Chocolate diamond
Bohemian Rhapsody
Double Dandy.

The plan for this weekend is to get the sweetcorn and aubergine seeds planted.

Cucumber
Runner Beans

Peas

These are all in modules or homemade paper pots. My plot is still under 'construction' so any direct sowing is being held off until this weekend or if the beds aren't ready, next weekend.

I need to get more compost so I can sow kale next

It's my best year yet, so far i have planted:

beetroot
runner and french beans
spring onions
potatoes
broccoli
peppers
cucumbers
courgettes
butternut squash
pumpkins
lettuces

most are on my window sills and when they outgrow that I have to find containers.

I've got chilis various varieties in.. and beetroot, and sprouts and red cabbage and cress and basil and a sneaky early pumpkin (nto that we are in competition against my dad..), purple podded peas and mange tout and early peas - that I have already sown, but forgot to post about

today.. yet more peas, and celeriac

I also forgot to post that I have my shallots and spring garlc in ........ the autumn garlic is doing ok too. I have also planted my elephant garlic, which is a newby to me this year.

Anyone else successfully grown this before?

Hi Red, here on the east coast (traditionally 2 or 3 weeks behind, in the growing calender), i'm sowing my peas directly into the soil, & the first batch seem to be germinating very well. I reckon the 2nd set will be going in very shortly.

Hi Red, here on the east coast (traditionally 2 or 3 weeks behind, in the growing calender), i'm sowing my peas directly into the soil, & the first batch seem to be germinating very well. I reckon the 2nd set will be going in very shortly.

we have a bit of a mice/bird problem here.. we sowed direct last year and netted them, and they germinated and got eaten by mice. So.. alas.. the only way I get peas is to sow in trays first then plant as little plants. time consuming but worth it.

A certain cure for this Red, although not 'green' and almost certainly illegal under our beloved EU laws, is to briefly wash the peas in paraffin before sowing.
The mice find the peas by smell and that stops them totally.

Well due to having time off with my accident prone 16 year old(who dislocated his shoulder and has hairline fractures), I have had time to catch up on all my planting so heres my list that i finally got in;
Potatoes
onions

too many flowers to mention and soon everything else will just fall into place.
oh and I forgot to mention that I have found a load of strawberry plants tucked awy under dead leaves so that is an added bonus.

yeh I heard this works.. but then so does sowing in trays in teh gh.. and thats what I've been doing these last few years and it works. and I can sow peas when its raining without getting wet

planted out my first sowings of early peas, mange touts are hardening off, second lot of early peas are sprouting and now i have planted some peas, and surrounded them with twigs etc, i have trays again to sow some more!

also put another four rows of spuds in.
