what are you sowing?

so far I have sown:

broad beans (in pots)
calabrese
cabbage
lemon grass
cauliflower

and put some parsnips to chit
spuds have been chitting for some weeks

spring onion, leek, lettuce, tomatoes, a single courgette and 2 other things that I forget are sown in modules on the window ledge or in the coldframe.

shallots have gone into the plot

peppers, peas, mange tout, sweetcorn and parsnips are chitting (?) they are sitting on damp kitchen roll or in water to soak them before planting.

Potatoes - Left over maincrop were brought out of storage earlier today to chit.... still haven't bought any earlies ... which reminds me of a post I meant to make....

How do you do your parsnips red?

after a lot fo experimenting with toilet roll tubes etc - which worked well apart from our jackdaw poulation likes to pull them up for nest material... I have now settled on shitting them - the seeds are sitting on soaked kitchen towel, and when they sprout teeny little sprouts.. i plant them. parsnips take forever to germinate.. so this speeds things up a tad

Down here in the southern hemisphere, I'm tending to the following recently sprouted seedlings: broccoli, cauli, carrots, silverbeet, wom bok (chinese cabbage), and daikon (chinese radish). Will be ready for Autumn planting in a few weeks. More to go in soon.

Ohhhh - you lucky so and so's.

No sowing here yet - still frost in the mornings and a risk of snow yet to come.

I have cleaned and repaired by little greenhouses ready and my herb seeds have arrived - so I am thinking of setting them up in my hallway - but concerned that the kitten may decide that is just a new climbing frame for him!

The ground is still frozen a couple of inches in, so no chance of even digging over or rotavating yet.

I'm getting ready to sow carrots, parsnips and red onions. Interesting about the germinating parsnip seeds. I think I'll try both!

I only have room for either carrots or parsnips in the cold frame - which one do you think I should go for?

Can you tell me Red, do you sprout them at normal temperatures?
I remember seeing an article about a someone who grows parsnips for show purposes and he chills the seeds for 2 weeks before giving them a bit of heat .... is that a load of tosh?
I have yet to sow mine as I like to leave them until the end of next month as I get terrible canker if I sow too early.

I always grow something "different" every year and this years weird ones have germinated this morning ... pomegranate and wonder berries

How high up are you t.a.f.?

Very spring like here this morning, 12°C and sunny. All the daffs are up and many are flowering. I'd love to believe winter was over!

Very newbie here, currently being gently and lovingly coached by AnnPan and OdSox

I have sown:

zuckertraube tomatoes
red cos lettuce, and
broad beans

with spinach and butternut squash ready for later.

The beans are going bananas - I feel like "Jack" every morning when I wake up and look how much taller they are. Am actually slightly worried - should they be that tall that quick? Some of them have stems 7 or 8 inches long and the leaves at the top are only just opening ... Gotta get them into pots today...
