Hi all,
Well this took me by surprise!Went up the Lottie today and one of the other allotment holders came to show me his corn!Or should I say what was left of it!Apparently a badger had destroyed his whole corn block (about 18 plants)and it was flattened with corn that was eaten. He showed me one of the cobs and it really looked like a person had striped back the husk and eaten the kernals.I didn't even know badgers ate veg?????His plot is right on the outside of the allotments, whereas mine is in the middle. Now I am becoming paranoid about the rest of my corn,as well as the veg I still have growing there.Anyone else heard of this?

Corn is one of the badger's favourite meals. The even do some kind of trick where one will use the back of another to get a better grip to flatten down the corn stem to get at it. Not a problem in the UK especially but apparently they like grapes too.

What do badgers not eat? I think "other badgers" ... Possibly.
Mind you, practically everything will eat your sweetcorn given half a chance.

I had never heard of this until this year, my friend had all her cauliflowers eaten and the spuds dug out, someone else had all their sweetcorn eaten, maybe they have been hungrier this year because of the cold spring and the lack of their usual food, I do have badgers coming onto my land, but my veg garden is fenced off because everything I choose to own as a pet likes to eat everything.

Or turning the situation around a bit, in these here wild parts, badger's lard is considered a great cure for various respiratory problems.

Like regular lard, but from badgers instead of pigs. You make a kind of tea with it, adding honey to sweeten it, or mix it with hot milk.
Apparently it's good for TB, pneumonia, bronchitis, broncho-pneumonia, asthmatic conditions, as an ointment for burns, bullet wounds, frost bite, ulcers, herpes, and even baldness (the prevention of rather than rejuvenation). It's a good wrinkle cream too, supposedly. Also full of various vitamins.
Never tried it personally.

Maybe Monsanto could come up with a hybrid corn and TB vaccine?

then we wouldn't need to shoot all the badgers!
