I'm really loahed to throw anything away but this chutney is 09 and a bit acidic now...and there's lots of fresh lovely chutney I don't want to go off.
But where do I throw it, do I really have to surrender it to the bin or can I use it in the compost (or another way?) I'm a bit worried about composting it with the acidity, our soil is acid enough too.
Any ideas welcome!
Can you put chutney on compost heaps?

How much are you wanting to dispose of?
if its just an odd jar or so -- why not use it up in cooking -- add a spoonfull or two to a casserole or pan of soup for added flavour. Or a teaspoonfull to a marinade.
Was the chutney always acidic? normally chutneys get more mellow over time.

It's two pretty large jars.... I do use it in cooking but it might take a while with all I have. It may be fermented rather than simply acidic, it's nearly 2 years old so on the basis they are generally meant to last a year and have gone rather discoloured and odd flavoured I'm just on the lookout for a disposal idea

Bury it & plant a blueberry bush over it, they like acid conditions

I put nearly anything and everything that will rot on my compost heap, after a few months it has all merged into a lovely black cake like mass. I also put on vacuum cleaner dust, egg shells and newspaper as well, but not bones. If you are at all worried about excess acid, just sprinkle a little lime on top that will neutralise it. Really I think you are safe to put chutney on the heap without any adverse reaction.
