Re: Strimmer troubles

Have fun with your scythe! I was a big fan of mine when I had the allotment (during initial clearance and to keep the neighbours weeds at bay) but dont need it so much these days with the little garden. I have been thinking of using it for the front garden which is starting to resemble a hay field b...

Re: Broccoli

I love broc but I also hate it. Love eating it, hate growing it. I think my soil must be a bit low on potash because it never does better than a giant plant with scruffy little 'heads'. I blame the damn butterflys. I finally managed to get it fed up with a load of nutrients and the cabbage whites ca...

Re: Cycle routes

Thanks Maggie, I have most of those printed out already but there are big gaps which I would really love to fill before the holiday. Its not really the end of the world as we can just cycle in any old direction and still enjoy it, I just loved the idea of following a route all the way down to Padsto...

He actually did it!

Today the other half made a delicious tomato loaf using our new (to us) breadmaker. Its was scrummy and its almost all gone already! I literally couldn't believe it, he usually doesn't do much cooking without a lot of prodding and not only did he get on and do it without prompting, he has promised t...

Cycle routes

This is a bit of a weird one but here goes. I am planning a cycling holiday for the start of August travelling from Bristol down south as far as we can go. I have had a look on the sustrans website and they have a wonderful 'West country way' cycle route which basically maps the route I am hoping to...

Re: cut down supermarket trips ?

Ok I will go through our last shop and how we got through it. Bear in mind that the easiest way to do this is to basically plan a months worth of meals and then throw in a few extra tins and dried packets for the last week if things start looking a bit thin. Things like toilet roll and veg oil we st...

There is two of us and we have gotten it down to once a month with milk from the corner shop. Now we have a chest freezer I'm hoping to extend that a bit!!

Re: Chest freezer and bread maker!

Lol, just goes to show the difference between people and 'ish' people. Conveying my excitement about this to friends was met with head pats and 'ahh cute, Gem is excited about a freezer' remarks.

Roll on harvest time!

Re: Chest freezer and bread maker!

Haha, yes the bargin section at the supermarket will be a lot more interesting now I have more freezer space. I always see lots of piles of the same thing on offer but if you don't have a freezer you have to resign yourself to eating the same thing for a week!

Chest freezer and bread maker!

Ahh I'm so excited!!! The OH's parents have just given us a mini chest freezer and bread maker! I have had real issues the last few years because I have had increasing amounts of produce but no space to store it but this year things will now be different! I have a pantry in my new place and now a ch...
