Re: Selfsufficientish Forum up for an award

Nothing for Selfsufficienish I'm afraid but Dave won for Grow your food for free and I did for Booze for free and I guess I did again for the Guardian allotment blog as I write for that too. So, we are are both pretty happy! http://thehorticulturalchannel.info/2011/12/horticultural-channel-awards-20...

Re: Cider

Gosh that old recipe, I haven't made that in at least 7 years so hard to remember and I didn't realise it was still up! I think I'd make it a bit differently these days ..see below for a revised recipe. Step 1 Cut up the unpeeled apples roughly with a non metallic knife. Cover with two gallons of bo...

I've also had some success moving it to a warmer place always worth a go in the winter months.

The selfsufficientish forum awards 2011 WIN PRIZES

Hello there folks It award season and it seems that there is an award for almost anything these days so why should this forum be any different? There will be five awards, a top prize of a bottle of my homebrewed wine (not sure which one yet) AND a signed copy of booze for free. The other 5 will get ...

Re: Selfsufficientish Forum up for an award

Cheers for voting folks! I suspect the swanky awards do will involve an email and the offer of putting an advert back to their website....Still, I'm very chuffed to be nominated for anything and doubly chuffed for you all voting. Perhaps its time for a selfsufficientish award again? (Those with long...

Re: Winter warmers?

Less people out and about is always a bonus it feels as if you have the countryside to yourself on a weekday. Clearer night skys too so good for star gazing. Also, now that we have moved house we have an excellent view only slighly obscured by some trees, much less of a problem in the winter months.

Re: Plum Wine

I'd say just drink it and don't worry. I've noticed some beers and ciders and marketing themselves as "naturally cloudy". As mike said, its cosmetic so don't worry.

Re: Just agreed to buy first house!

Will the foraging save you enough money to pay for the repairs is the question she asks laughing. Actually, fair point I think the veg patches, foraging will save some cash but the massive difference between rent and mortgague will save even more! and actually, up here on the hill it does...
