Re: Is it possible to DIY fit a woodburner?

We are ...

Re: Best insulate a 1930's cottage ?

Yip Thermal curtains we have, the carpets are all new, but cheap cord in some rooms admittedly (not our choice admittedly but brand new so we will hold onto them untill our decorations are all in truth completed) although i do like the idea of using old carpet as underlay although not really in a po...

Re: generators

Keith That is great, thanks for that makes considerably more sense now  just need to work out a decent size for it, the idea would be to have it housed in a small building, built to the size of whatever the genny is a type of shelter but there wouldnt be any open windows hence running t...

Re: Get Rid Of Mice

Guys liking the idea of the mesh for the airbricks though as i have had a look around certainly at ground level and cant see anywhere else they could be getting in but am well aware they can and do get through very small spaces sadly. One slight observation as i say from the noise created i beleive ...

Re: Best insulate a 1930's cottage ?

Clair thanks for that all great suggestions of course, sadly none of which we could really make use of given that our cottage is a rented housing association property and we would never get away with any of the measures you have mentioned sadly apart from the trees and a hedge, we overlook a world r...

Re: Best insulate a 1930's cottage ?

Clair Many thanks for that, we do have a kind of small house as it is, but had considered dropping the ceilings as they are slightly higher than normal by about a foot or so? (which would also allow us to loose all the god awful artexed ceilings in one foul sweep) although the walls would be a bit h...

Re: Multi fuel stoves etc

Boboff I feel i have to take offence at your comments above, first off i/we are nowhere close to how you describe us, you are basing your very singular views my friend on odd comments i have made throughout my time here-in a rather onesided way taking most it would seem out of context, given that yo...

Re: Is it possible to DIY fit a woodburner?

I will of course gain the relative permissions if and when we acertain if its cost effective and of course possible to do it :dontknow: as for punching holes in walls, isnt that what the original chimneys for to act as a flue?? (btw the next property to us is an identical cottage but council owned (...
