I want t oplant some sweet potatoes on my allotment in the nw of England. Can anyone tell me how to go about it please? Do I get seed sweet potoatoes just like my normal spuds or if not, then what ...and where and ,if possible, how? thanks in anticipation

it's not just food that' the problem it is also all the cleaning products....most of which we don't need anyway. They are just invented to make us buy them and then the advertising aims to make us feel guilty if we don't. There are many miles used in this totally unnecessary way.

thanks for this post. I have just found 3 beeking courses for beginners in my area. Acouple of us are going to keep bees on the allotments this year. I don't think the vadels will worry them.. at least I don't think they will do it twice!

all my books say ( as do the oldies on the plots) potatoes, then brassicas, the legumes and finally roots...then start again
Make sure that you don't put lime (or mushroom compost) wher e you are putting your spuds and put plenty of manure where your legumes are going....works for me!

our allotments are all different sizes and it is really quite arbitary. If we think they are too small we combine them and call them large. Alarge plot is £18 per year and a smallone is£16...so it's not a great difference....but really the plots vary enormously....and non are measured in poles...

we've just had a lot of vandalism at our lotie. We knew which school the kids came from as we recognised the uniforms. my friend has had a quince tree in her garden for years...she just leaves it to get on with things. Her garden is damp..has lots of frogs....and the quinc tree just seems to make up it's own mind...sometimes there are lots of fruit, last year ..very little. Quince jelly is lovely, I'd give it a go

I've planted herbs from the supermarkets when they were on their last legs and they are still growing fine in the herb patch...also planted from seed and have found no difference.....it could be the neglect that I heap on them
