Check out 'Bosky' before you decide. Its similar to an aga or raeburn but made of steel instead of cast iron thus its got a quicker response time. We run our heating, hot water and cooking off it. You can move the fire grate up to the hob for cooking and down to the bottom for filling for overnight...

Yep, I'd eat it. I also confess to having used flour with tiny bugs in, on account of them being cooked first and therefore harmless. (We were in the middle of nowhere and it was that or go hungry). I rarely take notice of sell by dates, trusting my own instincts more and I'm not dead yet. :flower: ...

my gran used to pour washup water on the garden for the plants and said it helped see the greenfly off.it was a pretty small garden all flowers. Veg and stuff came from the allotment ... which, according to my daughter who was a biology student and knows EVERYTHING is true. I think she said aphids ...

Sorry you didnt have fun Mrs F., but doesnt it just make you appreciate home? Perhaps it should be compulsory for every family to camp for two weeks each year - a bit like national service. Then we would all appreciate how much water and energy we use and appreciate home. ww.

Hi all, yes the little b*gg**s do sting sometimes but usually only when defending the hive. I also think that a bee sting is preferable to a wasp sting. That may be phsychological and that I'm more forgiving of bees. I have one of those little gadgets from Kaleidoscope that you press a button and it...

My bees swarmed!

Well, there I was planting out the sweetcorn when there was this huge buzzing noise. One of my hives had swarmed and were hanging right in the place where I was just about to place my bait hive. Got the gear on and managed to get them in the hive. I fed them then, relucantly, went on hols. Just got ...

Hi Ratty, I really wouldnt do that if I were you. O.H. (being helpful) put a bowl of greasy washing up water into the water butt. It was revolting for ages afterwards with greasy scum all over the pots and watering cans. Untreated grey water is not supposed to be kept but should be used straight awa...

I thought you had to use salt in the dishwasher to protect the washer itself rather than improve the finish? and might not using it damage the washer? :? I'm still uneasy about the salt content and chemicals going onto the garden. So I think for now I'll not risk it (on both counts). Its only a slim...

Energy inefficient?

What's the most energy inefficient or wasteful gadget around? My pet hate is patio heaters. At least with a firepit you get warm toes. 2nd would be not switching off christmas/garden lights after about 1 or 2am when not many people are around to see them. I suppose 3rd is standby lights. Its not a q...
