Re: jam jam and more jam
That's a relief, we've been freezing strawbs and rasps for a couple of weeks now expecting to make jam when we have enough, never occurred to me it might not work!

Re: Freezing - to blanch or not to blanch
I grew Feltham First 'peas' this year, which are much more like beans and didn't actually taste all that wonderful. Anyway, I blanched them by sticking them in a measuring jug, pouring boiling water on them then draining them and putting them in a tupperware. The ones we've eaten so far have been pe...

Re: Vegetarian cooking
Poisonally speaking, as we have one to-the-core veggie in the house, one who can never make his mind up and three slavering carnivores, I've got quite nifty at adapting and splitting recipes, so a recipe doesn't need to be officially veggie for it to be useful for veggies, or vice versa. Obviously a...

Re: Garliky Garlicness!
It's wonderful, isn't it? I roasted garlic last night to have with sausage and mash and it was absolutely delicious. I'll be doing it with the roast on Sunday and I just know for sure that my father won't touch it because he will simply refuse to believe it won't blow his head off! This is vindaloo ...

Freezing shedloads of stuff
Is this the right section? Hmm, not sure it is but not sure where would be better. We have a chest freezer, and a small upright that we inherited with the house. Both are groaning so we're trying to get a third on Freecycle. I've been using my vast collection of tupperwares for freezing, and periodi...

Re: Very UNeco parenting, grrrr
Overall I feel positively and warmly towards my mum and since I've had children I've understood a great deal more about why she behaved as she did sometimes. However! I do find some, in fact quite a few, of her traits absolutely infuriating. Going against my wishes with DD isn't something she does, ...

Re: We're having a boy!
That's fantastic news CT! I'm so thrilled everything's looking so good. I have a daughter already but have successfully brainwashed her against Bratz (she's 6 so right in the spot for them), and the Disney Princesses was but a brief flirtation. It's wall-to-wall Rainbow Magic at the moment! I've bee...

Re: Hi there from a parent-to-be!
Hi Rachel, Welcome to the site. I'm another pregnant Ish-er, expecting our second (though my skids live with us too so a houseful). I used cloth nappies for DD's last year in naps, and would definitely recommend popper wraps if you're going for a birth-to-potty set, as toddlers can undo velcro very ...

Re: Laundry balls
I was very excited about laundry balls (what an admission!), but I didn't find them too great in action. Clothes just weren't coming clean so I would end up washing them again a little hotter, which totally defeats the object. I have to confess I've now gone back to regular washing liquid - I'm not ...

Great advice, only I was so firmly locked out I wasn't permitted to read any posts! I've just registered with a slightly different username and different email address and at last I'm back in, ahhhh the relief!
