Some good advice so far. Also be aware they take up a lot of space. Not a crop to try if you've only a small area. They're also tea-leaf magnets if you're in that kind of area. I think WelshGirl's dad lost one last year.

That's exactly what I did - stored it in a cool vermin-free place for three months then cut it, used some fresh and froze the rest as puree.

You could make chutney or jam or wine I suppose, or it might bottle.

Once I have separated my recyclables and compostables I am mostly left with plastic waste. So now I am trying to reduce the amount of plastic I bring into the house so I don't have to dispose of it. But it is remarkably difficult to do.

It looks like a good scheme. I make my own recycled chicken bedding from shredded paper. However I only have 2 chickens. I don't think I could generate enough shredded paper to bed a pony or anything bigger.

I also have head that turnips defeat couch grass. And then again I've heard someone say it's a load of rubbish, they tried it and the couch grass drove its roots straight through the turnips and laughed like this "Ha! Ha! Ha! I laugh at your turnips!" which I can believe. Right now my plan...

I agree. I found the term "raised beds" confusing for a long time as I assumed it meant builing walls 2' high and filling them with earth. I didn't want to do that so I just did my own thing and then later realised I had created a raised bed system all unknowing.

You can't buy wine making supplies in France? That's just weird.

I suppose different councils have different requirements, so you should really check. But in general I'd say yes, put them in the recycling bin. That's what I would do, if I didn't put them on the compost heap or use them for chicken bedding.
