Re: Rotating crops
I am interested in this concept too and wonder why it is yearly- why not season-ly? Why should the rotation be done every twelve months? For example following this logic I could plant two brassicas one after the other, one in summer and one in autumn...wouldn't that increase chances of clubroot? I ...

Sowing Brassica Directly in the ground.
Does anyone here sow their bassica straight in the ground? How do you protect the young seedlings from slugs? Do you use seedbeds and holding beds or sow directly in their final places? How about in pots out in the open to be planted in the ground later in the year. My space under glass is reserved ...

Re: 101 important [but lighthearted] questions
Why do we insist on smashing up our glass bottles, use fossil fuels to heat it up to high temperatures and then make new glass bottles out them. Why not just have a few standard sizes of bottles which get cleaned and refilled personally? Why isnt all packaging taxed say 1p cardboard, 5p plastic bott...

Re-Capping Beer Bottles.
My drink of choice over the winter months is Real Ale. I buy bottles from the local shop with the metal cap lids. I'll be starting some homebrews off this year. Can I save up my beer bottles and lids. Sterilize the bottles, fill up with my homebrews and then re-cap the bottles? Im planning on doing,...

River Sand/Silt any good for carrots?
Yeaterday morning at work I was digging up silt dumped by the floods to allow vehicle access to a site. The silt is sandy and mixed with lots of dead twigs. Feeling rather ish I bagged up a couple of bags. I want to grow a few carrots on my clay allotment. Was thinking of digging deep circular holes...
