Outside of my hedge but still on my land is a complete overgrown mess of brambles and nettles which is full of wildlife but is taking over. Years ago I worked on a farm in northern Germany, near the North Sea coast, where the many ditches were overgrown on both sides with brambles. Or rather, they ...

Yes, greenbean, the very few brambles we have here in the area are still flowering, too. Funny enough there's hardly any wild ones around. Where I used to live, about 30 miles away, it was all brambles - here it's all raspberries. But I've started planting! The last occupant of my house spent a coup...

Old bath tubs make great pools for ducks, too - and a brilliant idea for recycling! One of my neighbours used to keep one hen, one duck and one goose together in a little poultry house. Free range during the day, but, come to think of it, no swimming pool. They were a happy family, the goose thinkin...

My goodness - what size are your frying pans??? Or how many people were you trying to feed with that quantity?

Sounds good, though. Just you wait till my courgette are past the flower stage...

Well, I've got loads of plants, but they still aren't much bigger... Even the ones I pricked out at an early stage don't really want to grow. But then, as I have so many, there'll still be enough for myself. And for freezing some "mixed herbs" - that proved very useful last winter for all ...

Actually, I seem to detect a slight positive development... The looks I get when I bark at the checkout staff "NO BAGS" aren't quite as funny as they used to be. And in my local shops they mostly know by now; they might still grab the bag out of habit, but then they look at me and say &quo...

Hi Pam, This is probably too late - I'm on holiday and try to avoid the office, that's why I've not been online a lot lately. I would wait till the tatties have cooled a bit, but they don't need to be cold altogether. Hope it went well, which ever way you made them! I've just had the potato-quark-ca...

It's the males of the species that are smelly - particularly in season! But the females seem to like it... :?

Either I have to increase my consumption of bananas, or I'll have to wait for the tomatoes to ripen the "natural" way... My goats love banana skin, and they get it whenever I eat one! There'd be a riot if I stick them in the tomato plants instead  ! Mind you, they only get the skins o...

I don't have an exact recipe, but I can tell you roughly what I put in (depending on what's in the house): Chop onion, sweat off in olive oil or butter. Add roughly chopped pumpkin; if you like it a bit more "substantial", add some chopped potatoes, too (but always more pumpkin than anythi...

Sounds familiar, that problem with the milk... Actually, I'm not quite sure what the regulations are in England, but in Scotland you are not allowed to sell (or give away!) any raw milk. (Which for me is the only "proper" milk - I used raw milk, from various farms and farming systems, and ...
