Re: The cellar !!

No fruit left (rhubarb is past it, red currants all eaten by blackbirds). There might be brambles later... Should have all the essentials still in my cupboards somewhere. Actually, I got a large pot of Sodium metabisulfite from work; was supposed to throw it out...

Re: Thrifty self sufficiency?

I seem to do most of the things she does already - but I still spend a lot more money. I don't even have a fridge; and why spend £200 or whatever on a new one - you could probably get one for free or a lot less through freecycle. Actually, just the rent on my house is far more than the £2400 she say...

Re: The cellar !!

Wow! I'd always thought I might start making wine again... And just recently, looking for something entirely different, I found my demijohns and other stuff. As you do. So maybe next year.

If that is true, life itself would be an anomaly? Seeing that we are mostly water...Makes you think.

Re: To all those junk collectors

Yep - they are good at talking, but not good at doing... Same with the supposedly environment friendly grass areas around here. In other places, they've turned them into wildflower meadows. Here, everything is sprayed dead, and what isn't killed by herbicides is killed by overenthusiastic mowing. We...

Re: To all those junk collectors

Yeah, that's another thing... I used to use the tip in Montrose, but can't anymore, because it's Angus and I live in Aberdeenshire. Nevermind that the nearest in Aberdeenshire is simply not at all accessible by bus - but hell, I can't walk in there anyway. So what do they want: do they want us to re...

There seem to be floods all over the world. Where's the water coming from? All that defrosting arctic and antarctic?

Re: To all those junk collectors

It's getting more and more difficult to dispose of any rubbish if you don't have a car. The recycling places won't even let you on unless you are in a car - allegedly, it's too dangerous if you are walking? So how am I supposed to get rid of stuff? I used to take things like small electrical items (...

Re: Self Sufficient 2021

Potentially it will also lead to people camping wild. I think that's a serious problem in some parts of the country already...North Coast 500, for example?

Re: Self Sufficient 2021

My neighbours have a very old campervan and used it every year for their holidays... This year, they can't afford the charges; they've gone up threefold.

Re: To all those junk collectors

That's a lot. But the problem with living in a place with lots of space for junk - it seems to breed junk. I see that on a friend's farm... All those more or less derelict buildings stuffed full of things that might come in useful one day!
