Note to self...

Do not store glass demi-johns in shed because only after you have spent hours straining four day old pear water, then added sugar, yeast & nutrient will the demi-john lose it's bottom and you will lose the entire contents of potentially yummy pear wine down the sink. :pale: :crybaby: My own faul...

Re: Favourite board games.

I bought my hubby a pretty cool board game for Christmas last year called Go Green! It's a self-sufficiency and green living board game. I bought it at great expense from the Entertainer in Reading, it is quite marvellous! is this it http://www.amazon.co.uk/Go-Green-Board-Game/dp/B004FLO86C/ref=sr_...

Re: Breast feeding, socially unacceptable or not?

In the 2 years and 9 months that I breastfed my son the only negative reaction I had was from my mother-in-law, she would visibly shudder and pull faces! That didn't stop me and she soon got used to it! She bottle fed all of her 5 children and didn't know anyone who had breastfed, so I'm really prou...

Re: What have you found lately?

Thought I'd bring back this thread with my find! Sitting outside in the back lane of my mother-in-laws today we found a hamster cage, in great condition with water bottle, bowl and attached tubes for them to run about it. Assuming it was thrown out after a much-loved pet had died, which is sad but g...

Re: Feeling Anti-Ish

I'm also coming out of an 'ish' slump, perhaps it is the winter that wears us down?

I definitely perked up earlier when I saw daffs starting to come through and even some crocuses (croci?) nearly blooming earlier.

Re: Chickens breaking eggs

What I have done in the past is to make the nesting box as dark as possible. I do this by closing up the entrance to the minimum possible to restrict light and blocking up any other little holes that are letting this in. This seems to work quite well - the chickens seem to reason that if they can't...

Re: How can I make- err encourage them to lay?

I'm not going to be much help but each time I see your title it reminds me of one of my son's favourite books "down on the farm of poor old Joe, the hens won't lay and the crops won't grow..." I don't think his solution will help you either - a dog playing guitar, fox on the fiddle, rabbit...

Re: chickens and diarrohea

There are so many different types of chicken poo's!
Here's a link to a page of chicken poo... http://chat.allotment.org.uk/index.php?topic=17568.0
Have a look and see if your hen's poop is similar to any of the unusual ones further down the page
