Visiting daughter, over the holiday, has resulted in several large pop bottles, and I have to admit to us emptying a couple of smaller tonic bottles.
So - we're on the way to a few of these beasties.

Re: My little dog
Sorry to hear your news pbf. As others here have said, it's devastating to lose a member of your family. I still miss our cats (Minnie, Dennis and most recently Dora) who've lived with us over the years. The pain diminishes over time though, and my abiding memories are their silly ways and "per...

Re: EcoFan
I had a look at your link and watched the video - there were others on the same page that referred to a stirling engine, which looked very interesting. Googling "stirling engine plans" might help you. It seems you can make these things with everyday objects, like drinks cans, and would jus...

Re: just bought some seeds off.......
We've had lots of seeds from them over the last year or two. They seem to be really good and some unusual plants, especially in the herbal section - although OH was cross with me for buying dandelion seeds!

Whaaat! I've heard of protein from all sorts of veg sources, including peas, but leaves? I had a quick look at the link and have bookmarked it for greater perusal later, but which leaves are best - it just kept referring to the identified LP source without naming it. We have an acute shortage of tre...

No, don't know anyone - yet, I wish I did.
Can't even buy any - raw milk's illegal in Scotland. Which also buggers up my plans for cheese-making.

Re: Don't buy anything new in 2009!
I suppose that many folks are already committed to projects that will, to varying extents, involve getting some new stuff. For my part I'd love to get some reclaimed flooring for my kitchen, but it's phenomenally expensive (trendy) and I couldn't afford to get it sent up here. So it's new real lino ...

Re: 2009 the big Selfsufficientish Year - one month challenge
Having just discovered that someone in the village gets rabbits, and during the summer we get loads of eggs from another neighbour, I think we could just about have a go at this. But what about things like coffee and milk? I've been collecting recipes to make my own non-coffee beverage, but I think ...

Re: Cheap recipes
How about Picallili risotto? Sounds bad but is really tasty, and I relied on it as a penniless student nurse to get me to the next payday! It's not really risotto - basically fried rice with picallili added and of course my mother's homemade picallili is best. Simply boil a pan of rice - whatever/ho...

New to blogging!
I thought I'd have a go at this blogging malarkey.
Here's my first offering

Hopefully it'll expand and improve with time and someone will tell me how to link this forum.

New Year buffet
I thought I'd show you our NYE buffet. Apart from my gal, the rest of us are at various stages of the flu bug. So our planned festivities had to be cancelled and my gal set to and made us food. Here's the result, which she's posted on her blog http://www.electricfruitcake.tk/ It was really tasty. An...

Re: Avoiding Supermarkets....
I have a similar problem. Apart from our local Foodlink stall, which only operates during the summer, and has a very limited range of produce (mainly excess from locals' gardens) my options for shopping are the local Spar - limited range and quite expensive, or driving 100+ miles, each way, to T***o...

If, like us you have coal-fired heating, paint everything with silk emulsion.
The matt stuff sucks up coal dust and comes off entirely when you try to clean it!
Or maybe it's just us....
