Help finding old magazines

A few years ago I was in a bookshop in Cardigan and managed to pick up the entire run of Practical Self Sufficiency up to the point just after it turned into Home Farm and Goat Botherer. Also included in the pile of magazines were a few issues of what seemed to be an alternative magazine called Seed...

Where I work filters that site out as a producer of spam! Make of that what you will.

It's probably good for oiling snakes. Do the Irish have a different All Fools Day to us?

Re: Building Off Grid Home in Orkney

Gel batteries are less prone to outgassing than car style lead acid batteries although they can do if overcharged. If your charge controller is pretty bullet proof you should be ok. I've seen an uninterruptible power supply which ran a radiotherapy "magic bullet" machine and that had somet...

Re: Building a plastic bottle fence...

A possible problem is the longevity especially if exposed to large amounts of UV and the strength of the bottle which ain't great to start off with.

Whereabouts is this place? I work in Birmingham so it might be feasible for me to get there.

Re: Building a plastic bottle fence...

I've seen two walls made out of glass bottles recently. One was the neighbour of the guy I bought my motorbike from. He'd set glass bottles in concrete around his drive. However he'd clipped one of them and now he has a nasty sharp and jagged hole which will hard to repair. The other was done by my ...

I'd certainly moan if any of those fences on that blog appeared next to me! The glass bottle ones don't look too bad but the plastic ones look rubbish and won't last long either.

Re: Rabbits and ragwort?

Our chickens used to eat rhubarb leaves (until I moved it). They'd eat enough to make themselves ill, stop eating it untril they got better then start again. They never learnt.

Re: Help with burning waste

I'm not convinced that drying human excrement would be healthy. My understanding is that the dung that's used for fuel is from herbivores and is basically plant matter. So it dries out ok and is fairly inoffensive. Even when I was a vegetarian I wouldn't want to have my dung hanging around thank you...

Re: How do we feel about artificial meat?

I've got no problem with it and I'd be happy to give it a go. I can't see why it would be worse than eating some of the antibiotic laden meat that we eat nowadays anyway. Tastewise I can imagine it would be bland though.

Re: can they do this to him??

Unfortunately if he was employed they wouldn't be paying travel to work or travel time to work in the first place. He must have had some sort of contract with them in the first place surely? WHat does it say in there?

Re: Help with burning waste

But that only shifts the problem of water usage from one place to another not so distant place.

You'd be far better off, if you want to save water, by gathering rain water or using your bath/shower water to flush the loo.

i'd love to go but at something approaching £400 for the whole family it's just not feasible.
