Ok, this may seem harsh... But have you thought about giving her to someone who WILL dispatch her? A chicken like that would be a liability in a flock, so only someone who doesn't already have chickens will take her... and having chickens isn't a decision to take in a couple of days. just a bit of topic, but my rhubarb gets little bored holes in it that bruise it, giving off a waxy substance... i think it may be bugs or ants... not quite sure. its annoying cos i only got one crop of it, it's flowered and the spikes are too much effort to process, there ain't much left! :scratch:...

The only reason we've grown tatties in containers is to get super-earlies, a nice treat after surviving the cold winter months...
half-oil barrels work...
if you want christmas potatoes why don't you clamp them or store them in a cold pantry? or is a space problem?

A sheet of polythene might be a good idea - the birds can still find the dropped seed, and it's easy to lift and clean off every few days. hmm, bird s@!£ might be a slight problem in that one... how about laying a few paving slabs under it, it'll look nicer than polythene, and basically you can mak...

Wow Purdey Bear, those sound quite neat tricks... The mother hates me putting my teabags in the compost (they drink loose leaf earl gray, but I like tea you can stand a spoon in), I know that PG tips are more plastic than paper, and would have thought its the same for most. I've not got any solution...
