Re: Fresh woodchip and chickens - OK?

Oh no, don't say that - the lawn is now completely littered with willow twigs!

I had best get out there with a spring rake, or we are going to be living in a forest before too long.

Re: Home made yoghurt

When I was wwoofing once my host made a fresh batch of yoghurt every day. She used to heat the milk in a thick casserole dish in the oven to blood temperature, and then just take the pot out and leave it to cool very slowly, covered in tea towels. In the morning she had loads of really lovely creamy...

Re: Fresh woodchip and chickens - OK?

Thanks Weedo, that's interesting. Do you think if I kept some and steeped some bark in water, I could make my own rooting hormone liquid? Would it keep?

Haha Maggie, the happiest goats ever!

Isn't salicylic acid in asprin as well?

Re: Fresh woodchip and chickens - OK?

Thanks both - plans have been kaiboshed unfortunately as the hire shop say that their chippers won't do willow - it is too fibrous and clogs the teeth up almost immediately.

Boo - so sadly it will be going to the recycling centre with the bigger logs saved for the neighbours' log burner.

Hi Gav, welcome to ish

Sorry I can't help identify your weed in the other post, but sure someone will be along soon to help.

Look forward to sharing your foraging wisdom - I haven't foraged since I mistook Lady's Fingers for Sorrel :shaking:

Re: How many?

I would do one 1/2m row of each - I am not an expert by any means, but I have always used metre rows of each and always find myself flinging most of it into the chicken run.

Re: Daffodils

Jealous! A little flash of yellow would cheer me up no end this year. Ours are still about 4inch high shoots.

Haven't noticed many snowdrops this year either...I guess I need to get out and about a bit more.

Fresh woodchip and chickens - OK?

Hi, We will be taking down some huge monstrous willow trees at the weekend which totally shade our garden out, after finally tracking down the landowner. Yippee! I was going to hire a chipper to shred the branches up, in the hope that I could use the chippings to go in the soon to be constructed, av...

Re: How many?

Dunno exactly but I would probably sow two half metre long rows for 2 people, especially if one variety is cut and come again?
