Re: Bamboo ?
Yes it is invasive. I would only grow it in a pot for this reason. Years ago I on a gardening job I had they had huge clumps of it in a border and it was coming up in the lawn a metre from the edge of the plant. Also my current neighbour has some that he grows for canes as well as the appearance. I...

Re: Moving country to be self sufficient
OK. We did it.wwe went out to the Correze last week and started to buy a house. All the usual French red tape to come I expect but so far it's been disconcertingly simple, especially as we're cash buyers and the look on the vendors face when we told him we wanted to live in it not have it as a holid...

Re: Dog ate something it shouldn't Have!
Ours ate an entire block of homemade pate once! It was wrapped up in about 5 layers of cling film. The cling film came out the other end about 24 hours later. (The pate wasn't still inside!)

Re: Iran
Just to remind people that the Shah of Iran started the development of an atomic bomb, aided of course by the West who helped build the initial equipment. After the revolution the Iranians abandoned it, considering it un-Islamic, however when Iraq, backed by the US, waged war against them they chan...

Eco spin on cool game
Following some metions of the game Settlers of Catan in the favourite board games thread I thought I'd mention an expansion for it that I got yesterday. It's based on the idea that oil has been found on the island and you can use it to but more resourses and build bigger towns. So far so evil captal...

Calling French Ishers
Bonjour! We are finnally coming to France later this month to look at some houses. Any of you know some good/cheap/alternative places to stay in either the Brittany/Normandy or the Limousin/Poitous Charante area (Around Limoges) We'd rather not stay in faceless holiday inn style places and we would ...

Re: Favourite board games.
We got settlers of Catan and Smallworld this xmas and they're great. Small world is a game a bit like risk set in a slightly cartoony Tolkeinesque world. Does't go on forever like risk though as it has a turn limit and no one knows who's won until the end as you keep all your victory points secret f...

I understand too. Questioned today by a college about our moving to France plans. It was all business plans and profit margins. I tried to explain that that wasn't the reason we were going and the idea was to move away from that target driven materialistic world and earn something more than just mon...

Re: How Rude!
It gets better. Finally got a reply today in writing. Put in my pigeon hole which was lucky really as the address on the top was wrong! Also it was dated yesterday so the claim it was sent to me last week was in fact a lie. Now think my decision to leave was most definately the correct one.

Re: How Rude!
Finnally got an answer/reply today. Apparently he wrote to me last week (9 days ago) it's just been sat on his PAs desk. I am now struggling with the good and bad sides of my karma/understanding. Either I've misjudged the man, parlty influenced by others past experiences. Or he's talking bullocks!!!...

Re: What are you reading?
How about something completely different and go for an Alan Moore graphic novel. If you've not read a graphic novel before or are skeptical/snobish about this as a genre Alan Moore will change your mind. Ignore the rubbish movies they've made of his work and go for Watchmen, V for Vendetta or From H...

Re: How Rude!
:pirate: I think it's rude, even an email saying sorry to hear you were leaving would have been better than nothing. What a shame, just adds to my view (as a teacher myself) that we aren't valued and are seen as easily replaceable. I wouldn't dream of including you in this post HB because i don't k...
