Re: Leaving Prezzie

When I left my job in Australia, they all put together a scrap book with loads of photos and messages from everyone I had worked with. They also bought me a lovely necklace, but nicest of all, they sponsored a child through World Vision 'in my memory' (made it sound like I had died!). Apparently, I ...

Re: Get rid of mosquito larvae in my water tank?

Subject says it all really - my water tank is full following recent rain (yay!) but also now has a lot of mozzie larvae in it (boo!). How can I get rid of it? Are they those wriggely things (usually red, & about 3mm long) that we are seeing in our butts this year? Ours are black, about the same...

Re: A personal question...

I will also read just about anything, although I did get into a rut of only reading murders (the more gruesome the better). I've recently bought loads of second hand books and have bought anything with an interesting title or front cover to try and broaden my reading horizons - I've read some great ...

Re: What water can I use?

Thanks. We are putting all our water into a water butt so that anything that is included (the odd bit of dust, dirt, washing up liquid) will be diluted by 'clean' water we add - saved from the shower while waiting for the water to get hot etc. I am a bit tight with water, trying to reduce what I use...

What water can I use?

I'm trying to save every drop of water that I can to use on my veg. I'm using water drained from pasta/potatoes etc, the water left over when I rinsed out the collecting bin on my vacuum cleaner etc. Can I use old dish-washing water if it is to be used on a food crop (use Ecover washing up liquid). ...

Is this the smallest tomato plant to bear fruit??

I know it is meant to be a dwarf variety, but this is ridiculous! I'm thinking I might not get a great harvest from these plants! (not sure if the photo is going to work?) What does 'not downloaded yet' mean for my photo? I've chosen the photo in 'Upload attachment' and added a file comment - now wh...

Re: Can I make a body scrub?

Phospholipids (don't know what that is and pretty certain that I don't have any!) According to Wikipedia phospholipids are a class of lipids and are a major component of all cell membranes. Most phospholipids contain a diglyceride, a phosphate group, and a simple organic molecule such as choline; o...

Re: Weeds underneath a bird feeder

Thanks everyone. I think our weeds are niger - it's those pesky greenfinches are certainly the messiest! No lawn MuddyWitch - just gravel, shrubs, pond and raised veggie patch. We've tried moving the thing in the past, but have really only moved the problem! I can't understand how the *@&%£$ wee...

Can I make a body scrub?

I use a body scrub in the shower which I really like, but as it is organic, it is expensive. It keeps my skin in good condition though, so I would like to keep using something. I glanced at the ingredients the other day and realised that most of them were quite simple; Crystalline salt (I have sea s...

What can I do with whey?

I've just made yoghurt cheese (yum!) and now have a small quantity of whey. What can I do with it? I've read that I can use it in baking but how?

Any ideas gratefully received!

Weeds underneath a bird feeder

We have a gravelled garden and a bird feeder. I am losing the battle with all the weeds that appear underneath the feeder from the discarded seed. I've tried pulling them up, but they are too little and numerous for that to seem like a good idea for long. I have also tried raking the gravel out of t...
