Re: Spotty Baby - Help!

Glad to hear you got a proper scientific diagnosis and the right treatent at last! GPs are, frankly, idiots most of the time. Weeping sores are not normal at any age. The idea of accepting utterly non scientific diagnoses really disturbs me...there is no such thing as "milk rash" - good on...

Re: victorian kitchen garden vs permaculture

I'm not sure I agree that one is more "bending nature" than the other. If you don't "bend nature" then you don't need to do anything - nature will provide - no permaculture required. For me, the Victorian walled garden actually achieved what most of us talk about - feed people ye...

Re: Ummm,...Hello?

All sorts of ways. Lots of people freeze most produce. But we (my wife and I) pickle, dry, salt, brine, clamp, lactic ferment, jam, jelly...oh and some of us import pressure canners :)

Re: Ummm,...Hello?

I don't speak for anyone else, but, for me, I have learned huge amounts about self sufficiency from my US friends. They have access to many things we lack (pressure canners and good supplies of heirloom wheat for a kick off). On the other hand our access to certain old tools and techniques is much b...

Re: victorian kitchen garden vs permaculture

I loved the series too, though, and the Edwardian one that followed. No series on permaculture that I know of but if you go on You Tube there are loads of mini films. Are you thinking of "Victorian Farm" GA? I don't think there was a series on "Edwardian Kitchen Garden" (unless ...

Anyone here keep geese?

I'm looking to locate some goose primary wing feathers and thought someone here might keep and pluck geese. Happy to pay and cover postage naturally :)

Re: Elderberry Port Recipe & Pictures

Does it keep OK BR, or is that a silly question?  I notice you don't put in any tannin or yeast nutrient. GA, I've never needed yeast nutrient in it, I suspect there is enough material in the fruit. It keeps at least three years, I confess I haven't managed to hang on to it for longer. ...

He's gone emeritus. Only difference is, most emeriti actually did some good work once... If Lovelock did, I don't know what it was. He invented the electron capture detector - and was responsible for the detection of CFCs in the polar atmosphere paving the way for Roland and Molinas Nobel prize win...
