I think it's beautiful, Mrs F. Why don't you embroider and frame it, rather than put it somewhere no-one can see it (until you get to that nursing home ).

Re: Grow your own drugs - BBC 2
I saw last night's, again little to do with growing your own, but I liked the lozenges - have just sent for gum arabic and will let you know the results.

Re: Building a Dry Rubble Retaining wall.
We had our garden landscaped with two semicircular retaining walls separating the top and bottom bits of the garden. The landscaper who did this built the proper retaining wall with blocks, and put drainage into them before building the drystone wall in front. I don't know for certain but I fairly c...

Re: Can I "not buy anything new for a year?"
I thought I'd been doing fairly well thus far - although I have had to buy a couple of new things, they've been things to get my shop ready - wood, fabric etc, - most of my purchases this year have been secondhand from ebay, or swapped with neighbours, and I've questioned everything and talked mysel...

Re: Pine Needle Tea
Thanks for that, I've got a couple of pine trees in the garden which will be putting on new leaf soon. Sounds good - which is what I thought. I just didn't want to go ripping my trees to shreds if it was horrible!

Re: crop rotation groups
Don't worry about the rocket, Ann. I don't know if they're brassicas or not but they're so quick growing it doesn't matter. Same applies to radishes, which are brassicas. The problem with clubroot applies to the long-growing brassicas, so don't worry about salady types.

Re: City Vs Country
I think it depends on the countryside. If it's major agricultural areas then it will definitely be depleted, but round here there's tons of stuff from bilberries, wild garlic through to field mushrooms and of course seaweed. As an aside, I've been reading that pine needle tea is an excellent source ...

Re: Lunar planting
That's it - at its simplest. It can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it. I'm not bothered about all the complications, just the idea that the moon draws up or not depending on its cycle. You know what it does to tides so it must have some truth in it.

Re: I can't work without a car? Really? So annoyed
It might be worth looking into the legalities of this.
As drug workers, all our posts were "essential car users". But we discovered it's discrimination to make a post open only to drivers. If they are equal opportunites employers then they can't discriminate!

Re: Lunar planting
We trialled it a couple of years ago - I sowed cabbages by my lunar diary and OH sowed about 10 days later - not the right time. The first lot were stronger, sturdier plants. I was impressed. Not got back in the swing yet - but when I'm more organised I'll have another go. I agree Jon, although I am...

Re: what are you sowing?
Our chilli's just started sprouting again. The peppers were good but not plentiful - they were in the polytunnel. But our aubergines were useless - not a single one off 6 plants - 3 different varieties!

Re: I'm bored!
Wild and wet this weekend. My work in the polytunnel was short-lived. Still I've got one bed cleared and dug. The other side is smaller and for tomatoes so can wait a little while if necessary. Next nice day I'll be out getting some salad stuff in. My light box cost a couple of hundred, but you can ...
