Not really sure. I'm nomadic in that I love travelling and going off to far-flung parts of the world to meet new people and experience new things, but I like having somewhere to come home to as well! I lived in a couple of places in Solihull when I was tiny, and moved up north when I was 5, so I eff...

I got wildly excited by the limoncello idea, until my boyfriend pointed out that they'd also brought back a large bottle of the stuff! So I made a cheesecake, using all the juice and zest, and made the base from ginger biscuits. It's still chilling atm, but the spoonfuls of mixture I ate were very p...

Hurrah! This explains why my grandpa was one of the happiest people I can think of - he was always out in the garden, even in his 80s...

Must get myself an allotment next year then!

101 uses for... a giant lemon!

Well, a larger-than-average lemon at least. My boyfriend's sisters brought it back from Italy for me and I want to do something special with it - or at least something a bit more interesting than marinading chicken in the juice and putting slices in Earl Grey. It's about the size of 2 1/2 normal lem...

Ooh, yeah, I really want one of these! I've managed to restrain myself till I move into a proper house in the summer though, as there isn't really space in my room. (Also, I'm supposed to be revising and getting a degree, not sewing - I've got the whole rest of my life for that.) There are loads on ...

I'm glad someone else noticed how odd it was that all the footage from An Inconvenient Truth showed Gore driving an SUV and flying all over the world!! I thought it was just me! I do worry about this concert though. I had my doubts about Live8 too, as it seemed to inspire an outpouring of guilt and ...

Hello all! Thanks for your help. The plants would be indoors, but I've got a huge windowsill which is very warm and light. (Sadly, my bathroom has no window, so the hanging basket on the shower rail idea is out.) I've asked my dad, and he said you can often get tomato seedlings in late spring, so I'...

Hello!

Thank you all for your friendly welcome. I've been off in the wilds of Derbyshire with no internet access for a week, which is why I haven't replied. I'm afraid I'm not Richard Hammond (in fact, I can't actually drive) but I'm glad my nickname has caused such amusement!

Tomatoes

I'm a student living in halls, so my options for growing veg are extremely limited, but I've heard people talking about growing cherry tomatoes on a windowsill. Is this actually possible? How would I go about doing it?

All help extremely welcome, this is my first foray beyond herbs!

Hamster.

Hello

Hello! I've been reading this forum avidly since I discovered it yesterday. I'm a student, so my level of self-sufficiency is very 'ish' indeed: limited to a few herbs on my windowsill and frenzied baking and soup-making as a diversion from essays and revision. But I'm getting more and more enthusia...
