Re: Elderflower syrup
Try elderflower syrup diluted with fizzy water and add a splash or 2 of limoncello, the best thing after a day's hard digging!! :-)

Re: Complete Dried Cat Food
Animals will normally eat anything if they are hungry enough so if you have the heart to continue then carry on but I know from experience its difficult not to give in to them. Have you thought about getting on of those automatic feeders that run off batteries. They operate on a timer and open once ...

Mine are still flowering but they are loaded with flowers. My gooseberries have the biggest crop on they've ever had. Keeping my fingers crossed that the mildew doesn't strike again.

Re: slugs, slugs, slugs........
I've used those nematodes for the last 2 years. They're not cheap but they really work, good for the small black slugs that live under the ground that other methods struggle to control. The cheapest ones I've found are from Gardening Naturally . com

Re: Can I use a heated plant propergator to hatch my poultry
Incubation is quite a delicate task and needs the right humidity as well as temp and turning regularly. I wouldn't thought that a propagator would be that successful but if you look up the exact timings for turning the eggs and you have an accurate way of monitoring humidity and temp then you might ...

Re: Onion help please
I'd harvest them and use them in salads as they may bolt (go to flower). Onion sets are usually heat treated to prevent them bolting but when I try to grow them from sets they bolt so I've grown from seeds for the last 2 years. The seeds need to be sown really early the tradtional day is christmas d...

Hi Sarah,
It's a permaculture design course in Chorley running one Saturday a month for a year. I'm luck in that I do food growing as a job to - I'm a community Food growing project officer with the Lancashire Wildlife Trust in Chorley so I get to go on courses like this for work too!

Re: Anyone else have polytunnel stress building one?
I agree my tunnel is from First Tunnels and we drilled pilot holes for each self tapping screw using a tiny drill bit just big enough for the screw to bite into. I found our biggest problem was making sure everything was square to everything else. Lots of swear words muttered but with the help of so...

Re: Heating a Polytunnel
Hi, I have insulated my polytunnel and heat it using a small propane heater. I used greenhouse bubble wrap to line the inside of the tunnel which lets a surprising amount of light through but keeps the heat in and then have installed a small thermostat controlled propane heater. This is enough just ...
