Looks like Huckleberry which also looks like nightshade! I wouldn't risk eating the black berries!

Re: what are med' dwellers sowing now?

Hello Dina  Summer veg depends when your last frost date is and how warm and light you can keep your seedlings, I start my chillies and aubergines Dec-Jan and tomatoes in Feb in my heated greenhouse.
Veg like broad beans, lettuce, garlic, carrots, chard, kale can be in the ground now.

Re: brewing equipment in spain??

Where abouts are you? There's a great little wine making supplies shop in Cadiar which is 30 mins drive from where I live, they also sell homemade local wine and vermouth. They don't have a website.

Re: Sprouting seeds and pulses

We do a lot of sprouting, must say that green lentils are my favorite, they taste a bit like like raw peas, good luck with the sprouting

Has anyone got any ideas about how to preserve them sliced in jars without pickling (too much pickle in our house!)

Re: Cut flowers

Calla lilies are great as cut flowers, last a long time too, you can get different colours other than white. I would also go for dahlias, easy to grow with lots of flowers to cut.

The other half make us a chestnut loaf for our Christmas dinner, we make sure we gather enough chestnuts this time of year to do us over Christmas.
