Re: Buying some land and living on it.
Heard this mentioned on the radio the other day - and it's looking very interesting and helpful, especially for those of us who are hoping to somehow have somewhere to live on the land one of the days! http://www.tlio.org.uk/TheLand/index.html Chapter 7 or The Land is Ours mentioned above are the p...

Courses at Bulworthy Project, Devon
As well as our charcoal courses , we have courses in Spooncarving, Blacksmithing, Green-Woodwork and Bowmaking . We're running charcoal courses regularly from now until October. Our day courses run from 9am until 5pm using 2 kilns to go through the whole process of charcoal production in a short per...

Re: Help no broadband......
We have mobile broadband via a dongle. It reacts badly to being in a woodland especially when the leaves on the trees are wet. It reacts even worse to being inside a caravan, so we put it in a jar in the roof.
It's not perfect, but it's better than no broadband at all.

Re: Do you grow animal or chicken food
Our chickens are in a forest garden area. A lot of the plants that we have put in their are specifically for the chickens to eat. The wild garlic has to be fenced in so that they only eat the leaves that poke through the mesh rather than destroying the whole plant. Mint grows fast enough that they d...

The reed bed purifies liquids, but first you have to get seperate the solids and that is what a septic tank does.

Re: We've got planning permission to build a house in our wo
How exciting. Please do film the build, even if it's just the odd photo for us. I'd love to do a project like that. Good luck Zoe After a number of delays, we've finally got started and have got the reed bed partly dug and the septic tank on site. This is a fairly odd photo: http://www.bulworthypro...

Re: Cooking in a wood-burning stove
We just wanted to say thank you to Jeremy for starting this thread. We've been talking about doing Jacket potatoes in the woodburner for ages but had not got around to trying it. Our oven was broken a couple of years ago moving it from one caravan to another and as a result we do our Sunday roast on...

Seats reserved exclusively for men in the House of Lords
The automatic seats in the House of lords given to bishops, mean that the already prodominantly male legislature has a section reserved exclusively for men. We've both signed the following petition to get this discussed in parliament.

Re: Man builds Hobbit house for 3k
For good reasons, they don't like people building houses in the open countryside. 100 acre retail parks, however, are encouraged. The latest planning guidance means is so vague that big companies with expensive lawyers will be able to argue for almost anything. (plus of course those brown env...

Re: Man builds Hobbit house for 3k
For good reasons, they don't like people building houses in the open countryside. Having recently got permission to build in the woods after a 3 year process of proving that we have a viable business that requires residence, we would discribe the rules as well-intentioned but overly beaurocratic.

Also, used a vegetable based chain lube oil. You'd be surprised how much oil spray you inhale/ingest. Could not agree more. When I did my chainsaw training, the instructor made the point quite well by saying "How would you feel if I came onto your land with a 5l container of mineral oil and st...
